Final Monday

I am a part of all that I have met;
Yet all experience is an arch wherethro'
Gleams that untravell'd world whose margin fades
For ever and forever when I move.
--"Ulysses" by Alfred,  Lord  Tennyson

    I sat down to update the Hixson Network this evening, and I realized that I only have a few more updates to write. So I indulged and began with a favorite quote from a favorite poem. The experience of being the principal of Hixson Middle School is an arch through which I can see new and different and challenging experiences, and I am the more courageous in the face of these, a better person and a better principal, for having served Hixson Middle School for the past five years.

    This week may be challenging for many reasons. Rather than rushing, what can we do to slow down, even when it's counterintuitive, what can we do to rely on and to support one another, even when our patience or energy is stressed or tried, to focus on what is essential for a successful final week of school? I invite you to apply a rigorous standard to what is essential so that you might end the year proud, successful, and ready for a rest!

    We will convene as an entire building community on Tuesday, 5/27, at 8:30am for our annual kolache breakfast. We will use this time to honor our retiree and to bid farewell to those of us who are leaving.

    With great expectations,
    Jason
