1-9

MONDAY MEMO WEEK OF 1/9/2017
A huge thank you to the best staff in the entire world for the amazing cooperation and teamwork on Friday with our spontaneous early dismissal day!!  I couldn't have asked for a better result than we had.  Thanks to you, our students were safe and accounted for and our entire building was dismissed and arrived home safely. We only had 4 students who were waiting for a ride. Thank you so much for stepping up, as you always do.  We had an overwhelming amount of volunteers to stay with us for the remainder of the day if we had a large amount of students left behind.  The way this staff handles anything thrown at them in any situation with grace and thoughtfulness is unique and highly regarded; I have found this amazing team to be one of the strongest qualities of Hixson.  So thankful for YOU!

Master Scheduling 17-18

Committee Sign Ups
Below are some opportunities to participate in committees this semester. Please see me with any questions. Links to sign up for each opportunity are provided.

SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT TEAM
I am starting a school improvement team comprised of parents, staff, and students from our Hixson community.  The commitment for this team is 2 evenings this semester, one in January and one in March.  Monday, January 23rd at 6:00 PM and Monday, March 13th at 7:00 PM.
The goals of this team are to increase effective communication, seek feedback to improve our school, and foster collaboration.  If you are interested in participating on Hixson’s School Improvement Team, please add your name here.

8th GRADE CELEBRATION PLANNING TEAM
If you are interested in participating on Hixson’s 8th grade celebration planning team, please add your name here.

We would like to seek feedback from staff, parents, and students in planning the celebration for our 8th graders in May, 2017.  The commitment for this team is 1 meeting and email communication afterward.  The meeting will be Wednesday, February 15th from 6:00-7:00 pm.

PRINCIPAL-TEACHER ADVISORY TEAM
If you are interested in serving on my advisory team, please add your name here.

The goals of this team are to build trusting relationships, increase effective communication, foster collaboration, and provide opportunities for teacher leadership/voice.

The commitment for this team is one meeting a month in January, February, March, and April. Our first meeting will take place on Wednesday, January 11th from 4:10-5:00 pm. Subsequent meetings are as follows: February 22nd from 4:10-5:00 pm, Wednesday, March 29th from 4:10-5:00 pm, and Wednesday, April 19th from 4:10-5:00 pm

Paper allocation:
As you know each staff member is limited to 2000 copies per person per month in order to be conscience of our paper consumption in our one-to-one environment. Our goal for the 16-17 school year is to use less paper and acquire a cost savings which we can use for additional technology.

I am cognizant that we have departments without textbooks and understand that printing is necessary at times as part of effective teaching and learning.  This paper limit is in effect to help us save paper so we do not run out before the year’s end.  I will work with my principal-teacher advisory team to evaluate our paper usage this semester and to come up with ideas for ordering for 17-18, this 2000/person/month is not a permanent solution, it is a semester solution.

Please let me know your thoughts and solutions for moving forward next year.  Please see me with any questions or concerns.

ASA
Teachers, please remember to continue to walk your after school activity students out to the main entrance after ASA has ended.  Thank you for keeping up with this, it is having a huge impact on student supervision.

Please remind students they should be off campus by 3:45 on Mondays and Fridays and by 4:15 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays

Please remind students to dress appropriately for the cold weather and bring coats if they want to go outside

With the colder temps arriving, please remind students that if they are allowed to come to your room at lunch, they need to come immediately after getting their lunch in the cafeteria. To prevent roaming, students will be not be able to leave the cafeteria during the middle of lunch. They should eat lunch and remain in your room until lunch is over.  Please let us know if you have any questions.
