Friday Memo - 4/9/2021

Thank you, Aimee and Mike!
This week was assistant principal's week. Mike and Aimee have done a ton of work throughout the year to help this school run as smoothly as possible, and support students and staff. If you get a moment, please take the time to thank Mike and Aimee for all that they've done for Hixson!

Note from a parent
Please see the very lovely note from a parent below.

Dr. Mayes,

I hope things are going well for you. My name is Joshua Brinkley and my daughter, Hollye, is a current 8th grader at Hixson. I just wanted to say thank you to you and your staff for everything you do each and every day to keep our kiddos safe while also providing them with a first class educational experience in the midst of such a challenging time. The past year has not been easy for anyone, but you all have gone above and beyond for the students and parents of Hixson. Keep up the amazing work and know that my family and I truly appreciate you!

Hiring update
On Thursday evening, we had three new teachers approved by the Board of Education. I've provided that information below.

  • Amirah Garwood - 8th grade Science (from Normandy Schools Collaborative)
  • Kendell Sparks - Health & PE (from City Academy)
  • Aaron Hummert - Health & PE (from Rockwood Summit High School)
I will introduce them to the staff on next week via email. We are still in the process of hiring one more PE teacher. Our plan is to take that person to the BOE on April 22.

We will be interviewing for the 6th grade ELA & Social Studies teacher next week. Additionally, our 0.5 Library and 0.6 French postings close today, and we will start the screening process for those positions next week. We re-posted our math position, and that posting closes on Thursday, April 15, 2021. Please let me know if you have any questions.
